Why choose Kendall Medi-Trace 530 electrodes?
Aggressive adhesion for demanding environments
Standard monitoring pads may lift when a patient moves, exercises, perspires, changes position, or remains connected for an extended procedure. The 530 Series uses a highly aggressive adhesive intended for these more challenging monitoring situations.
Stress testing, Holter monitoring, cardiac rehabilitation, ICU care, procedural areas, and diaphoretic patients as core applications.
Large conductive contact surface
The 1¾-inch teardrop shape provides a larger surface than many compact routine-monitoring electrodes. More surface area allows more hydrogel to contact the patient, helping support adhesion and a consistent electrode-to-skin interface.
Flexible foam substrate
The foam conforms to the skin rather than acting as a rigid pad. This can be useful on curved or moving treatment sites where a stiff electrode might lift at the edges.
The foam still requires proper skin preparation and complete contact across the entire adhesive surface.
Conductive adhesive hydrogel
The proprietary hydrogel performs two jobs:
-
It helps secure the pad to the skin.
-
It transfers the patient’s cardiac electrical signal to the monitor.
No additional conductive gel is normally required. Adding a separate gel can interfere with the adhesive unless the facility, monitor, or electrode instructions specifically state otherwise.
Snap-style connection
The central snap connects to compatible ECG/EKG monitoring leads. Please confirm that the monitoring cable uses a snap connection before placing your order.
These are not tab electrodes for grabber clips and do not use the 2 mm pin connectors found on most TENS and NMES pads.

How to apply Medi-Trace 530 electrodes
Follow the monitoring-system instructions and the facility’s skin-preparation and lead-placement protocol.
1. Verify the electrode and equipment
Before opening the pouch, confirm:
-
Adult monitoring application
-
Correct order code
-
Required pouch quantity
-
Compatible snap-style ECG lead
-
Non-radiolucent construction is acceptable
-
The package is undamaged and within its labeled expiration date
2. Select and prepare the skin site
Apply to intact skin at the location required by the monitoring protocol.
The site should generally be:
-
Clean
-
Dry
-
Free of lotion and oil
-
Free of excess perspiration
-
Prepared according to facility policy
Clip excessive hair when appropriate. Do not place an electrode over injured, infected, or significantly irritated skin unless directed by the responsible clinician.
Electrode-care guidance emphasizes proper preparation and recommends supporting the skin while removing the pad in the direction of hair growth when possible.
3. Remove the electrode from its liner
Handle the pad by the foam edge. Avoid touching the hydrogel unnecessarily because oils and debris can contaminate the conductive surface.
4. Apply the complete surface
Place the electrode at the selected site and press from the center outward.
Confirm that:
-
The pad lies flat.
-
No edge is folded.
-
There are no air pockets.
-
The full adhesive surface contacts the skin.
-
The lead wire will not pull against the electrode.
5. Attach the snap lead
Connect the compatible ECG lead securely. Avoid twisting the snap excessively after the pad has been placed.
6. Confirm the tracing
Check the monitor for:
-
Appropriate waveform quality
-
Stable contact
-
No lead-off warning
-
Acceptable artifact level
If tracing quality remains poor, inspect the skin site, electrode adhesion, snap connection, lead wire, monitor settings, and patient movement.
7. Remove and discard
Disconnect the lead as directed. Gently fold the electrode back over itself while supporting the patient’s skin. Remove hair in the direction of its growth when possible.
Dispose of the used electrode according to facility policy. Do not reuse it or transfer it to another patient.
Skin preparation and signal quality
Even an aggressively adhering electrode requires correct skin preparation.
| Skin-preparation step | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Remove surface oil and lotion | Helps the hydrogel contact the skin evenly |
| Dry perspiration thoroughly | Reduces edge lift and incomplete adhesion |
| Clip excessive hair when permitted | Allows the complete pad to lie flat |
| Avoid touching the hydrogel | Limits contamination |
| Press across the whole surface | Helps secure the edges and center |
| Support the lead wire | Reduces pulling on the snap and foam |
| Avoid unnecessary repositioning | Repeated removal reduces adhesion |
When the electrode instructions and facility policy allow it, NuPrep Skin Prep Gel can help lower skin impedance for stress, Holter, telemetry, or cardiac rehabilitation monitoring. NuPrep is a preparation product—not a replacement for the electrode’s conductive hydrogel.
Read our guide, Ten20 vs. NuPrep: When to Use Each Product, for a clearer explanation of skin preparation versus conductive pastes.
Storage and pouch handling
-
Store unopened cases according to the temperature and humidity instructions printed on the package.
-
Protect pouches from heat, direct sunlight, and moisture.
-
Keep unused electrodes in the original pouch.
-
Reseal an opened pouch promptly when possible.
-
Do not use an electrode with dry or contaminated hydrogel.
-
Do not use a torn, folded, damaged, or expired pad.
-
Never return a used electrode to the pouch.
-
