TheraMed Professional Dual Moist-Dry Heating Pad

The TheraMed® Professional Dual Moist-Dry Heating Pad combines electric dry heat and moisture-assisted heat in one reusable pad.

Use the pad dry for straightforward electric heat, or use its dampened sponge insert when moist heat is preferred. A one-button hand controller cycles through four heat settings—Warm, Low, Medium, and High—with color-coded LED indicators, while an automatic shutoff ends the heating cycle after approximately 40 minutes.

Choose the 12" × 15" Medium HP1215 for a more compact treatment area or the 12" × 24" King HP1224 when broader coverage is useful. Both models use the same basic moist/dry design and controller system.

UPC / GTIN-12 092237614631 092237614648

Choose the 12" × 15" Medium when

The medium is the better fit when a smaller electric heating surface is easier to position and store. Its 12" × 15" format keeps the full 12-inch width while reducing excess pad length.

Choose the 12" × 24" King when

The King maintains the same 12-inch width but adds nine inches of length. It is therefore the more practical option when the user wants broader longitudinal coverage from a single pad.

The King does not provide a different heat-setting system or a higher therapeutic category. Its principal difference is coverage area.

Dry heat vs. moist heat

The TheraMed's defining feature is that the same electric heating pad supports either setup.

Dry Heat Moist Heat
Sponge insert Used dry / no moisture added The sponge insert is dampened
Heat source Electric heating element Same electric heating element
Added moisture No Yes
Setup Simpler Requires preparation of sponge
Pad size options Medium or King Medium or King
Heat controls Same four levels Same four levels
Shutoff 40 minutes 40 minutes

That distinction is important because the TheraMed works very differently from our water-conditioned Hydrocollator Moist Heat HotPacs and HydraHeat Hot Packs.

How the four heat settings differ

Controller setting LED color Manufacturer-published range
Warm Green 95–113°F
Low Yellow 113–131°F
Medium Orange 131–149°F
High Red 149–167°F

Start with a lower setting and follow the instructions supplied with the current product. Heat perception and burn risk depend on the setting, contact, moisture, skin condition, pressure and individual temperature sensitivity.

One-button, color-coded controller

The controller is intentionally simple.

The user presses one button to move through the available levels, and the LED color indicates the selected setting:

Green → Warm
Yellow → Low
Orange → Medium
Red → High

The controller is ergonomically designed and specifically emphasizes the one-button interface.

This is a meaningful differentiator for users who prefer a straightforward physical control instead of a touchscreen, app, or complex program menu.

Why the 40-minute automatic shutoff matters

The unit automatically turns off after approximately 40 minutes, which matches the treatment-time specification in the manufacturer's technical sheet.

The shutoff is a safety feature, not an instruction to use the pad continuously for 40 minutes in every situation.

Treatment duration should still reflect the current product directions and individual circumstances. Do not portray the timer as making unattended or sleeping use appropriate.

TheraMed heating pad vs. reusable hot/cold gel packs

The TheraMed and our reusable hot and cold gel packs overlap only in their ability to provide heat. Their workflows are entirely unique.

Feature TheraMed Electric Heating Pad Uni-Patch Reusable Hot/Cold Gel Pack
Heat source Electricity Preheated gel
Cold capability No Yes
Moist heat Dampened sponge insert Not the primary system
Temperature control Four powered settings Determined by conditioning method
Automatic shutoff 40 minutes None
Power outlet required Yes No, during application
Multiple sizes 12" × 15", 12" × 24" Small, Medium and Large
Best fit Repeat electric heat without reheating a pack One product needed for both hot and cold applications

The reusable gel packs can be heated or cooled according to their instructions, while TheraMed is a dedicated powered heating system.

TheraMed vs. a Hydrocollator HotPac system

For clinics, the Hydrocollator HotPac system may be the more useful comparison.

Feature TheraMed Heating Pad Hydrocollator HotPac + heater
Heat generation Inside electric pad Pack conditioned in hot-water tank
Dedicated tank required No Yes
Moist-heat preparation Dampened sponge insert Water-conditioned HotPac
Startup infrastructure Wall outlet Filled/heated Hydrocollator unit
Continuous clinic inventory One active pad per device Multiple packs can remain treatment-ready
Temperature selection at point of use Four controller levels Tank temperature controlled centrally
Automatic individual timer 40 minutes No equivalent timer built into HotPac
Best environment Individual treatment station or home/clinic use Higher-throughput professional moist-heat workflow

A clinic that repeatedly needs multiple treatment-ready moist packs may prefer our Hydrocollator Heating Units. A clinic or individual wanting one electric pad without maintaining a heated water tank may prefer TheraMed.

TheraMed vs. HydraHeat / HydraTherm

The HydraHeat Hot Pack and HydraTherm Deluxe form another professional moist-heat workflow.

TheraMed HydraHeat + HydraTherm
Powered item touching patient Electric heating pad Passive heated pack
Moisture method Dampened sponge Water-conditioned pack
Heating tank None HydraTherm tank
Pack inventory One electrical pad Multiple reusable packs
Between-patient workflow Removable cover care Wipe-clean nonporous packs
Primary advantage Simple self-contained heat source Multi-pack clinic workflow

Electric heating pad or hot pack?

A useful way to select between our heat products is by workflow.

Need Balego option

Eight-foot cord for easier positioning

An 8-foot cord provides more reach from the outlet than a short appliance cord.

The cord is useful for positioning, but it should not be presented as a reason to stretch the cable tightly across a room or create a trip hazard. The value is simply greater placement flexibility around a chair, treatment table, or resting area.

Removable machine-washable cover

The pad uses an extra-soft 100% polyester removable cover, which is machine washable.

That distinction should be stated carefully:

The removable fabric cover is machine washable.

Do not shorten the claim to “machine-washable heating pad,” because that can imply the electrical heating element and controller can be placed in a washing machine.

Follow the care directions supplied with the current product for washing and drying the cover and cleaning the electrical pad itself.

Which TheraMed size fits different coverage needs?

Size recommendations should be based on the amount of surface area required rather than claims that a particular pad “treats” one diagnosis better.

Coverage need Medium 12" × 15" King 12" × 24"
Compact localized area Excellent fit More material than necessary
Broad torso or long muscle region Moderate coverage More coverage
Easy storage More compact Longer
Travel/storage footprint Lower Higher
Same controller system Yes Yes
Same four settings Yes Yes
Same moist/dry capability Yes Yes

Because both versions are 12 inches wide, the purchasing decision is mostly about how much length is useful.

What the TheraMed should not be confused with

The product is

  • A powered electric heating pad

  • An OTC localized-body heating system

  • Capable of dry or moisture-assisted use

  • Available in two sizes

It is not:

  • A microwave heat pack

  • A cold pack

  • A Hydrocollator tank

  • A shortwave diathermy device

  • Therapeutic ultrasound

  • An infrared lamp

  • A TENS device

  • A medication-delivery system

Important heat-safety considerations

Powered heat can cause burns when used improperly. The four product settings exceed ordinary skin temperature, so users must follow the manufacturer's instructions instead of treating the color settings as universally safe.

In particular:

  • Do not assume the 40-minute shutoff makes sleeping with the pad appropriate.

  • Avoid folding, crushing, or sharply creasing a powered heating pad during use.

  • Do not place excessive body weight on top of the pad.

  • Check skin regularly.

  • Stop for burning, unusual redness, blistering, pain, or excessive heat.

  • Use extra caution when temperature sensation is reduced.

  • Do not combine a heating pad with a topical analgesic unless that product's labeling expressly permits external heat.

Frequently asked questions

What sizes does the TheraMed heating pad come in?

The TheraMed heating pad comes in two sizes: Medium 12" × 15" (HP1215) and King 12" × 24" (HP1224).

What is the difference between HP1215 and HP1224?

HP1215 is the 12" × 15" Medium. HP1224 is the 12" × 24" King. Both use the same moist/dry design, four-setting controller, and 40-minute shutoff.

Can the TheraMed be used for moist heat?

Yes. The manufacturer specifies moist use with a dampened sponge insert.

Does the pad need to be soaked for moist heat?

No. Manufacturer literature describes dampening the sponge insert; it does not direct users to immerse the electrical pad itself.

Can it also be used completely dry?

Yes. Dry heat is the second supported application.

How many heat settings are there?

Four: Warm, Low, Medium, and High.

What do the controller colors mean?

The manufacturer's specification associates warm with green, low with yellow, medium with orange, and high with red.

What are the published temperature ranges?

Warm at 95–113°F, low at 113–131°F, medium at 131–149°F, and high at 149–167°F. These are manufacturer product specifications and should not be interpreted as universally appropriate skin temperatures.

How long does the heating pad stay on?

It automatically shuts off after approximately 40 minutes.

Does it have an adjustable timer?

The manufacturer documentation reviewed specifies a 40-minute automatic shutoff rather than a user-programmable treatment timer.

How long is the cord?

8-foot cord.

Is the cover washable?

Yes. The removable 100% polyester cover is machine washable

Is the entire heating pad machine washable?

The manufacturer specifically identifies the removable cover as machine washable. Balego should not imply that the electrical heating pad, controller, or cord can be machine washed.

What is the electrical rating?

The manufacturer's product sheet lists 120 V, 60 Hz, and 50 W.

Is it an OTC medical device?

Yes. FDA GUDID currently lists HP1215 as an OTC localized-body electric heating pad system under the powered-heating-pad product code IRT. (AccessGUDID)

Is a prescription required?

No, the FDA's current HP1215 GUDID record identifies the product as OTC rather than for prescription use.

Is the TheraMed the same as a Hydrocollator HotPac?

No. TheraMed generates heat electrically and can use a dampened sponge insert. A Hydrocollator HotPac is a passive reusable pack conditioned in a dedicated hot-water heating unit.

Can it provide cold therapy?

No. Customers who need both heat and cold from the same reusable product should compare our Reusable Hot & Cold Gel Packs.

Can I use topical pain-relief gel underneath it?

Do not assume so. Many topical analgesic labels prohibit external heat because it can increase the risk of skin injury. Follow the exact medication label before combining any topical product with a heating pad.

Use notice: The TheraMed Professional is a powered heating pad capable of generating substantial heat. Follow the current instructions supplied with the product, monitor the skin during use and discontinue application if excessive heat, burning, pain or abnormal skin changes occur.

Victoria ★★★★★

I've been using this heating pad for my stiff neck and the dual moist/dry feature really helps me switch between a gentle steam and direct heat. The automatic shut-off gives me peace of mind when I fall asleep with it.

Amelia M. ★★★★★

The moist heat setting on this pad is a game-changer for my stiff neck — it stays warm and comfortable for a full session without overheating.

Penelope L. ★★★★★

I wasn't expecting the moist heat setting to make this much of a difference, but it sinks into my shoulders way better than plain dry heat ever did. The pad heats up fast and the cover is soft enough to lie on without a towel. Genuinely relieved I bought this.
