Why Choose AdvanTrode Elite Tan Tricot Electrodes?

Silver-Coated Carbon Conductive Film

The conductive layer combines carbon film with a surface-applied layer of silver. Its purpose is to distribute stimulation across the usable electrode area rather than concentrating output near the pigtail connection.

Conductive feature Practical benefit
Silver-coated carbon film Helps distribute current across the electrode surface
Low-impedance construction Supports efficient transfer from the lead wire to the pad
Full-surface conduction Helps reduce localized or uneven stimulation
Flexible film Allows the conductive layer to conform with the electrode backing

The silver layer is part of the current-distribution system. It should not be confused with an antimicrobial coating unless that feature is expressly identified on the packaging.

35-Mil Dual-Layer Hydrogel

The 0.035-inch dual-layer hydrogel provides the adhesive and conductive interface between the pad and intact skin.

The thicker gel construction is designed to support:

  • Secure electrode-to-skin contact

  • Repeated applications by the same user

  • Conformability over body contours

  • Comfortable electrode removal

  • Consistent current transfer during treatment

  • Storage and reuse when the pad is returned to its liner

Actual pad life varies. Skin oils, perspiration, treatment frequency, handling, storage, and the application area all affect how long an electrode remains usable.

Flexible Tan-Tricot Topcoat

Tricot is a soft knitted fabric used as the backing layer of the electrode. Compared with a more rigid backing, tan tricot can flex as the body moves and conform around curved treatment areas.

It is particularly useful when:

  • The electrode is placed over a rounded contour.

  • The pad needs to move with the skin.

  • A low-profile cloth backing is preferred.

  • The clinic wants multiple shapes made with the same backing material.

  • Foam padding is unnecessary.

"Tan tricot" describes the electrode’s backing—not its adhesive formulation or electrical polarity.

Reinforced Pigtail Connection

Each TENS electrode has an attached wire ending in a soft molded socket. A compatible lead-wire pin inserts into this socket.

The attached pigtail design provides:

  • Separation between the lead-wire connection and adhesive pad

  • Easier connection without handling the hydrogel

  • Flexibility when the patient moves

  • A molded grip for connecting and disconnecting the lead wire

  • Compatibility with many standard pin-style electrotherapy leads

Before ordering, compare the electrode connector with the lead wires supplied with the device. A pigtail electrode will not connect directly to a tab-style or snap-only lead.

See our pigtail vs. tab connector guide for examples.

Available Sizes and Case Quantities

Each case contains ten individually packaged sets. Standard sizes contain four electrodes per package, while the largest formats contain fewer pads per package.

Model Nominal size Shape or format Electrodes per package Packages per case Total electrodes
WT375 1.375" diameter Small round 4 10 40
WT2 2" diameter Round 4 10 40
WT22 2" × 2" Square 4 10 40
WT13 1.75" × 3.75" Rectangle 4 10 40
WT24o 2" × 4" Oval 4 10 40
WT3 3" diameter Large round 4 10 40
WT35o 3" × 5" Large-format electrode 2 10 20
WT47 Approximately 4.25" × 7" Extra-large rectangle 1 10 10

Which AdvanTrode size should you choose?

Electrode selection should begin with the treatment area, device instructions, required coverage, and available skin surface.

Selection need Suggested size to consider Why
Small or confined placement WT375 1.375" round Compact footprint for limited placement areas
Small curved area WT2 2" round A rounded edge fits many smaller contours
General replacement electrode WT22 2" × 2" square Versatile, familiar electrotherapy-pad size
Long or narrow treatment region WT13 1.75" × 3.75" rectangle Elongated shape without excessive width
Larger curved region WT24o 2" × 4" oval Broad coverage with rounded edges
Larger joint or rounded area WT3 3" round Wider circular contact area
Large muscle or treatment area WT35o 3" × 5" Broader contact with two pads per package
Very broad treatment area WT47 approximately 4.25" × 7" Largest tan-tricot option with one electrode per package

Smaller vs. Larger Electrodes

At the same device output, a smaller electrode concentrates stimulation over less skin area. A larger electrode spreads it across a broader surface.

Choose an electrode that:

  • Fits completely on clean, intact skin

  • Remains flat without folding or wrinkling

  • Does not overlap another electrode

  • Matches the device and clinician’s placement instructions

  • Provides the intended coverage without extending into an unsafe location

For a more detailed selection process, read How to Choose TENS Electrodes, Sizes, and Lead Wires.

Bulk Packaging for Clinics and Repeat-Use Programs

The AdvanTrode Elite Tan Tricot line is particularly well suited to professional inventory because every case contains ten separately packaged sets.

Why separately packaged sets matter

  • A clinic can issue one unopened package to each patient.

  • Unused packages remain protected until needed.

  • Electrode sets can be assigned to individual home programs.

  • Larger sizes can be purchased without receiving an unnecessarily high pad count.

  • Ten-package cases simplify treatment-room and department inventory.

  • Model numbers make repeat ordering more precise.

Case Configuration by Size

Case type Included models Typical inventory fit
40-electrode case WT375, WT2, WT22, WT13, WT24o and WT3 Standard two- or four-pad electrotherapy setups
20-electrode case WT35o Large pads, supplied two per package
10-electrode case WT47 Extra-large single-electrode packages

AdvanTrode Elite vs. Other Electrode Options

The best electrode depends on the preferred backing, gel, conductor, size range, and package format. The following comparison is intended as a selection guide rather than a simple quality ranking.

Electrode line Conductive system Gel and backing Size range Package format Best reason to choose
AdvanTrode Elite Tan Tricot Silver-coated carbon film 35-mil dual-layer hydrogel with tan-tricot backing Eight options, including extra-large formats Ten packages per case; 40, 20, or 10 total pads Silver-enhanced construction, broadest size range and clinic case packaging
Balego TENS/NMES/FES Electrodes Conductive carbon film 40-mil hydrogel with flexible spunlace Five common sizes Four electrodes per package American-made everyday value and thick hydrogel
Uni-Patch R Series Electrodes Carbon-film conductor 25-mil hydrogel with tricot backing Five common sizes Four electrodes per package Familiar tricot-backed individual replacement packs
Classic Electrodes Silver ink and carbon film Aloe hydrogel with soft-foam backing Four common sizes Four electrodes per package Foam construction and aloe-hydrogel preference
696SS Superior Silver Blue Gel Electrodes Silver and carbon construction PolyHesive Blue Gel with flexible low-profile backing 2" × 2" square only Four electrodes per package Dedicated skin-friendly blue-gel option

Choose AdvanTrode Elite when:

  • A clinic needs ten separately packaged sets.

  • Silver-coated carbon construction is preferred.

  • Tan-tricot backing is preferred over foam.

  • Several shapes must be standardized within one product family.

  • Pads larger than the usual 2" × 4" format are required.

  • The buyer wants the same electrode construction in small, medium, and extra-large sizes. Device and Lead-Wire Compatibility

These are pigtail-style stimulating electrodes. They require a compatible lead wire with a pin that fits into the molded electrode socket.

Before purchasing, verify:

Compatibility question What to check
What type of device is being used? Confirm the device is designed for external electrotherapy electrodes
What connector is on the lead wire? Look for a small pin intended to enter a pigtail socket
Is the device connection proprietary? Some EMPI and other devices require a special lead at the device end
What size is currently being used? Match the existing pad unless the treatment plan calls for another size
How many pads are needed? One channel normally requires two electrodes
Does the device manual restrict electrode size? Follow the device manufacturer’s instructions
Are the lead wires worn? Replace intermittent, damaged or exposed wires

The electrode-side connector and device-side connector are separate compatibility questions. A lead wire may fit these pads but still fail to fit the stimulator.

Browse TENS lead wires and electrotherapy cables when a replacement lead is also required.

Compatible Electrotherapy Applications

AdvanTrode Elite Tan Tricot Electrodes may be used with compatible devices designed for external reusable stimulating pads, including the following:

  • TENS

  • NMES

  • EMS

  • FES

  • Other clinician-directed electrotherapy applications when permitted by the device instructions

These are not:

  • Diagnostic ECG or EKG electrodes

  • Iontophoresis medication-delivery electrodes

  • Defibrillation pads

  • Grounding or dispersive surgical electrodes

  • Ultrasound transducers

  • Dry reusable carbon-rubber electrodes

The stimulation is generated by the connected electrotherapy device. The electrode provides the conductive interface between the device and the skin.

How to Apply the Electrodes

  1. Turn the electrotherapy device off or set every channel intensity to zero.

  2. Inspect the treatment area.

  3. Apply only to clean, dry, and intact skin.

  4. Remove oils, lotions, and topical products that could reduce adhesion.

  5. Connect the lead-wire pin to the molded electrode socket.

  6. Remove the electrode from its liner by lifting the backing—not by pulling the pigtail wire.

  7. Apply the full hydrogel surface smoothly to the skin.

  8. Press around the electrode so that the edges remain flat.

  9. Connect the lead wire to the device.

  10. Increase intensity gradually according to the device and treatment instructions.

Do not place electrodes so close together that their edges touch.

Electrode Care and Storage

Proper storage helps preserve the hydrogel between applications.

Care step Why it matters
Use on clean, dry skin Reduces contamination from oil and lotion
Avoid touching the gel Helps preserve adhesion and cleanliness
Remove the pad by its backing Reduces stress on the pigtail wire
Return the pad to its liner Protects the adhesive surface
Store in its original package Helps limit moisture loss and contamination
Keep the package closed Slows hydrogel drying
Avoid excessive heat and sunlight Helps preserve the adhesive
Assign pads to one user Supports hygiene and prevents cross-use

Do not pull the electrode off the skin by its attached wire. Repeated wire pulling can damage the pigtail or connection between the wire and conductive film.

When Should the Electrodes Be Replaced?

There is no fixed application count that applies to every user.

Replace the electrodes when:

  • The pads no longer stay adhered.

  • The edges repeatedly lift during treatment.

  • The hydrogel has dried, torn, or become contaminated.

  • The gel surface is uneven or missing.

  • Stimulation feels sharper or even less than usual.

  • The wire or molded socket is loose.

  • The output cuts in and out when the lead moves.

  • The backing is torn or permanently folded.

  • Skin irritation develops.

  • The pads were used by another person.

Do not attempt to repair an electrode with tape, adhesive, conductive gel, or household materials.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are AdvanTrode Elite Tan Tricot Electrodes?

They are reusable self-adhering stimulating electrodes that have a tan cloth topcoat, silver-coated carbon conductive film, dual-layer hydrogel, and an attached pigtail connector.

What is tan tricot?

Tan tricot is the flexible knitted fabric used as the electrode’s top backing. It helps the pad conform around body contours while protecting the internal conductive layer.

Are these TENS electrodes reusable?

Yes. They are designed for multiple applications by the same person when properly handled and stored. Replace them when adhesion, gel condition, or stimulation quality declines.

How many electrodes are included?

The case quantity depends on size:

  • Standard sizes: 40 electrodes

  • WT35o 3" × 5": 20 electrodes

  • WT47 extra-large size: 10 electrodes

Every case contains ten individual packages.

Do all sizes contain four electrodes per package?

No. Most sizes contain four. The 3" × 5" option contains two per package, while the largest WT47 option contains one per package.

What is the best general-purpose size?

The WT22 2" × 2" square is the most familiar general-purpose format. The correct size still depends on the treatment site, device instructions, and clinician’s placement plan.

Which option is best for larger areas?

The WT24o 2" × 4" oval, WT3 3" round, WT35o 3" × 5", and WT47 extra-large rectangle provide progressively broader coverage.

Do these electrodes contain silver?

The conductive film has a silver-coated carbon construction. The silver helps distribute electrical current; it does not mean the pad is a solid-silver electrode.

Are these antimicrobial electrodes?

They should not be represented as antimicrobial unless that claim appears on the exact package or current manufacturer labeling. Silver in the conductive layer serves an electrical function.

Do they use standard pin connectors?

The tan-tricot versions use an attached pigtail with a molded socket intended for compatible pin-style lead wires. Always compare the connector with the lead supplied with the device.

Will they fit every TENS or NMES unit?

No electrode should be advertised as universally compatible. These pads fit many devices using standard pin-style leads, but proprietary lead wires and other connector formats exist.

Can they be used for NMES or EMS?

They can be used with compatible NMES or EMS devices if the electrode size, connector, and placement match the device instructions and treatment plan.

Can these pads be shared?

No. Reusable electrodes should be assigned to one person.

Can conductive gel be added when they stop sticking?

Do not add ordinary conductive gel, water, or adhesive unless expressly permitted by the manufacturer. Replace a pad when its hydrogel no longer provides reliable contact.

Can they be placed over broken skin?

No. Apply ordinary self-adhering stimulating electrodes only to clean, dry, and intact skin unless a qualified professional and the device labeling specifically direct otherwise.

Are these the same as ECG electrodes?

No. These are reusable therapeutic stimulating electrodes. ECG electrodes are designed to acquire diagnostic or monitoring signals and use different connectors and materials.

Claire ★★★★★

After my last set of electrodes wore out quickly, I was relieved that these adhesive pads stick firmly for multiple sessions without losing grip. They're flexible enough to contour around my knee joint, and the conductive layer holds up well even with regular use. Exactly what I needed for consisten

Sophia N. ★★★★★

The tan tricot material feels softer against my skin than the usual stiff pads, and they’ve held up through a full week of daily use without losing that initial stickiness. Even after peeling them off and reapplying a few times, they still sit flat and snug on my shoulder.

Avery R. ★★★★★

They stick firmly right out of the pack but still peel off cleanly without leaving residue, which is a huge plus for daily use. The cloth backing also conforms well around my knee joint during therapy sessions.
