Uni-Patch™ Model 721B Banana Plug-to-2 mm Pin Electrotherapy Adapters

The Uni-Patch Model 721B Banana Plug-to-Pin Adapter changes the patient-end connection of a compatible electrotherapy lead from a banana plug to a standard 0.080-inch, or about 2 mm, male electrode pin.

The adapter accepts a compatible banana plug and provides a smaller male pin that fits into the female pin socket or pigtail connector found on many reusable TENS, NMES, EMS, FES, and related electrotherapy electrodes.

This accessory is useful when an older clinical stimulator or lead-wire system is still working but has banana plugs instead of the electrode pins used by many current self-adhering pads. Each bag contains 10 individual black adapters.

    How the adapter works

The adapter converts the connector format at one lead-wire endpoint.

    Connection sequence

Compatible electrotherapy device → compatible lead wire → banana plug → Model 721B adapter → 2 mm pin-socket electrode

    Connection point What must match
Device to lead wire The original cable must fit the device
Lead wire to adapter The cable must terminate in a compatible banana plug
Adapter output 0.080-inch, approximately 2 mm male pin
Adapter to electrode The electrode must have a compatible female 2 mm pin socket or pigtail
Electrode to patient The electrode must be intended for the selected stimulation modality

The adapter does not plug directly into every stimulator. It normally connects to the banana-plug endpoint of an existing lead wire.

    What Model 721B does

    • Converts a compatible banana plug to a smaller male electrode pin

    • Helps connect older clinical lead systems to qualifying modern electrode pads

    • Avoids replacing an entire functional cable solely because its endpoint differs

    • Supports electrodes with female pin sockets or pigtail connectors

    • Provides a removable conversion rather than a permanent cable modification

What Model 721B does not do

    • Convert a 2 mm pin into a banana plug

    • Convert a pin to a snap

    • Convert a pin to a flat-tab clip

    • Repair a loose, cracked, or intermittent cable

    • Change the plug that enters the stimulation device

    • Convert one electrotherapy modality into another

    • Make an ECG electrode appropriate for stimulation

    • Make every banana plug or 2 mm socket compatible

    • Alter device intensity or other treatment parameters

    How many adapters are required?

One adapter is needed for each banana-plug endpoint that must connect to a pin-socket electrode.

    Setup Electrode connections Adapters required
    One electrode pair 2 2
    Standard two-channel setup 4 4
    Two complete four-electrode setups 8 8
Entire package Up to 10 endpoints 10

A bag of ten provides enough adapters for two complete four-electrode systems, with two individual adapters left as spares.

    Compatibility checklist

    1. Confirm the starting connector

The existing lead wire must have a banana plug that physically and electrically fits the Model 721B receptacle.

“Banana plug” is a connector category. Plug diameter, insulation, protective housing, and construction can differ among systems. Do not force a plug that does not insert easily and securely.

    2. Confirm the electrode connection

The selected electrode must accept a standard 0.080-inch, approximately 2 mm male pin.

    Common compatible connection descriptions include:

    • 2 mm pin socket

    • 0.080-inch socket

    • Pigtail socket

    • Soft-molded pin connector

    • Female electrode pin connection

The adapter is not intended for electrodes with only the following:

    • A male pin

    • A snap stud

    • A flat tab

    • An alligator clip

    • A proprietary safety connector

    • A magnetic connection

    • A wireless connection

Our electrode-connector guide emphasizes matching the device cable, electrode connection, and modality rather than selecting pads by appearance alone.

    3. Confirm the electrode’s medical purpose

A physically fitting electrode must also be intended for the treatment being performed.

Electrode category Connector may fit? Appropriate based on fit alone?
TENS stimulation electrode Possibly No—confirm device and electrode instructions
NMES/EMS electrode Possibly No—confirm modality and pad specifications
FES electrode Possibly No—confirm complete system compatibility
IFC-compatible stimulation electrode Possibly No—follow device instructions
ECG monitoring electrode Connector generally differ. No
Diagnostic ECG electrode Connector generally differ. No
    Defibrillation electrode No No

A connector adapter cannot change a sensing electrode into a current-delivering stimulation electrode.

    4. Confirm the device-side connection

Model 721B only changes the endpoint after the banana plug. It does not alter the connector entering the stimulator.

When the device-side cable is wrong, loose, damaged, or missing, replace the complete lead wire rather than adding adapters.

    Common applications

The adapter may be useful in:

    Setting Potential application
Physical therapy clinic Connect compatible legacy banana-ended leads to modern pin-socket electrodes
Rehabilitation department Standardize selected electrodes across older and newer stimulation equipment
Chiropractic office Continue using compatible clinical stimulators with replacement adhesive pads
Athletic training room Adapt qualifying banana-ended leads when pin-style pads are preferred
Biomedical department Maintain a limited inventory of connector-conversion accessories
Teaching laboratory Demonstrate differences among banana, pin, snap, and tab connectors
Experienced home setup Replace a lost adapter only when the original device and electrode specifications are known

The correct adapter must be chosen from the actual connector configuration—not solely from the equipment brand or treatment modality.

    Product comparison

Model 721B vs. other Balego electrotherapy adapters

Product Starting connector Converted connector Package Best use
Model 721B Banana-to-Pin Adapter Compatible banana plug 0.080-inch/approximately 2 mm male pin 10 Connect banana-ended leads to pin-socket electrodes
Model 745 Pin-to-Snap Adapter 0.080-inch/approximately 2 mm male pin Compatible snap 10 Connect pin-ended leads to snap electrodes
Model 770 Pin-to-Clip Adapter 0.080-inch/approximately 2 mm male pin Electrode clip 10 Connect pin-ended leads to compatible flat-tab electrodes
45-Inch TENS/NMES Lead Wires 2.35 mm device-side plug Two 2 mm male electrode pins 2 wires Replace a complete compatible lead wire

    Choose Model 721B when:

    • The existing lead wire terminates in a compatible banana plug.

    • The desired electrode accepts a 2 mm male pin.

    • The cable itself remains in safe working condition.

    • Only the patient-end connector format needs to change.

    • A legacy clinical stimulation setup is being maintained.

Replace the complete lead wire when:

    • Cable insulation is cracked.

    • Conductive wire is exposed.

    • The device-side plug is incorrect.

    • Output is intermittent.

    • The cable has been stretched or sharply kinked.

    • The banana plug is loose or corroded.

    • Several adapters would otherwise need to be chained together.

Adapters should not be connected in a long series to compensate for fundamentally incompatible equipment.

Model 721B vs. direct pin-ended lead wires

Feature Banana lead with Model 721B Direct 2 mm pin lead wire
    Adapter required Yes No
Connector junctions Additional junction Fewer junctions
Preserves existing banana cable Yes Replaces it
    Setup complexity Slightly higher Simpler
Best use A legacy or specialty banana-ended lead remains required A compatible direct replacement cable is available
Troubleshooting The adapter and cable must both be inspected Fewer separate components

A direct replacement cable is generally simpler when the correct device-side plug is available. Model 721B is most useful when the existing banana-ended lead is required or cannot conveniently be replaced.

Our 45-inch TENS/NMES lead wires use a 2.35 mm device plug and two 2 mm electrode pins. They are therefore an alternative only when the 2.35 mm device-side plug matches the stimulator.

    Compatible electrode style

Model 721B is intended to provide a pin that inserts into a compatible female electrode socket.

    How to connect Model 721B

Follow the stimulator, lead wire, adapter, and electrode instructions.

    1. Turn off the stimulation device

Set all channel intensities to zero and turn off the unit before connecting, disconnecting, or repositioning any component.

    2. Inspect every component

    Check:

    • Device-side plug

    • Lead-wire insulation

    • Banana-plug endpoint

    • Adapter receptacle

    • Projecting 2 mm pin

    • Electrode socket

    • Electrode gel and backing

Do not use a connector that is loose, cracked, bent, corroded, contaminated, or visibly damaged.

    3. Connect the banana plug

Insert the compatible banana plug straight into the adapter receptacle until the connection is secure.

    Do not:

    • Force an oversized connector

    • Twist the plug aggressively

    • Leave exposed conductive metal

    • Modify the connector with tools

    • Add tape as a substitute for proper fit

    4. Connect the electrode

Insert the adapter’s 0.080-inch male pin into the electrode’s compatible female socket or pigtail connector.

The pin should fit securely without excessive force.

    5. Apply the electrode

Prepare the skin and apply the stimulation pad according to the device, electrode, and treatment instructions.

    6. Begin at zero intensity

Turn on the device and increase intensity gradually. Stop immediately if the output becomes intermittent, unexpectedly sharp, or concentrated.

    7. Disconnect after treatment

Turn off the device and return all channel controls to zero. Separate connectors by holding their insulated bodies rather than pulling on the wire.

    Care and replacement

I did not locate a current public Cardinal Health cleaning procedure specifically for MW72160. The product page should therefore avoid giving unverified instructions involving alcohol, disinfectant, immersion, autoclaving, or chemical sterilization.

    Recommended care language:

    • Keep the adapter clean and dry.

    • Disconnect it before inspection.

    • Do not soak or immerse it.

    • Do not bend the projecting pin.

    • Do not pull on connected cables.

    • Store it where the pin will not be crushed.

    • Follow the current package and facility infection-control instructions.

    • Replace the adapter rather than attempting a repair.

    • Do not use an adapter with exposed metal beyond its normal connector surfaces.

    • Do not continue using a loose or intermittent connection.

It is a connector adapter that receives a compatible banana plug and terminates in a 0.080-inch, approximately 2 mm male electrode pin. The manufacturer catalog number is MW72160.

How many adapters are included in the bag?

The package contains ten individual black adapters.

Is that ten adapters or ten pairs?

    Ten individual adapters—not ten pairs.

How many adapters are needed for four electrodes?

Four electrode connections require four adapters.

What does 0.080 inches equal in millimeters?

It equals approximately 2.03 mm and is commonly described as a 2 mm electrode pin.

Which end is the banana plug connection?

The black receptacle receives the compatible banana plug. The smaller projecting metal connector is the 0.080-inch male electrode pin.

Does the adapter plug directly into a TENS unit?

Usually not. It is intended to connect to the banana-plug endpoint of an existing compatible lead wire. The original cable still needs to fit the device.

Does it work with every banana plug?

No. Banana plugs and their protective housings can vary. Confirm physical fit without forcing the connection.

Will it work with all TENS electrodes?

No. The electrode must have a compatible female 2 mm socket or pigtail, and it must be appropriate for the device and modality.

Does it work with snap electrodes?

Not directly. Snap electrodes require a compatible adapter such as the Model 745 Pin-to-Snap Adapter, depending on the starting lead connection.

Potentially, when every component—including the device, cable, adapter, electrode, pad size, and connector—is appropriate for the selected NMES or EMS system, it can be effective.

Can it be used with an ECG electrode?

No. Ordinary ECG electrodes are designed to record cardiac signals rather than deliver therapeutic stimulation.

Does the adapter alter treatment intensity?

It is intended only to convert the physical connector format. It does not change the programmed waveform, frequency, pulse width, or intensity.

Can it repair a damaged lead wire?

No. Replace a cable with cracked insulation, exposed wire, loose plugs, or intermittent output.

Is the black color a polarity marking?

The current product information identifies the adapter as black but does not provide sufficient documentation to assign a universal positive or negative polarity meaning. Follow the stimulator and lead-wire labeling.

    Is it reusable?

The page should avoid guaranteeing a particular reuse or cleaning life without the current package instructions. Inspect the adapter before each use and replace it when damaged, loose, contaminated, or intermittent.

    Customer Reviews (5.0 / 5 · 5 reviews)

    Evelyn P. ★★★★★

These adapters fit snugly into my TENS unit leads, solving the problem of loose connections I had with other brands. Having ten in a bag means I can keep spares for each of my therapy devices.

    Emily ★★★★★

The 2 mm pin connection on these adapters is much more secure than the loose-fitting ones I've tried before. They click right into my TENS unit leads without any wobble, which makes treatment sessions way less frustrating.

    Carter ★★★★★

Finally, adapters that actually stay put instead of wiggling loose during a session. The banana plug fits snugly into my existing leads and the 2 mm pin end is much more secure than the old snap-style connectors.
