Parker SignaGel® Conductive Electrode Gel — 2 oz Tube

SignaGel® Electrode Gel is a highly conductive, multipurpose electrolyte gel. It improves electrical contact between intact skin and compatible electromedical electrodes during ECG/EKG, EMG, biofeedback, and manufacturer-approved defibrillation procedures.

The smooth saline-style formula fills small gaps between the electrode and skin, creating a consistent conductive interface. SignaGel is water-soluble, non-staining, and non-gritty, allowing it to spread evenly and wipe away with a moistened soft cloth after the procedure.

The 15-60 is a compact 60 g / 2 oz tube with a see-through body and a stand-up dispensing cap. It is a practical size for diagnostic rooms, treatment areas, emergency carts, mobile kits, rehabilitation departments, and clinical teaching laboratories.

ECG, defibrillation, biofeedback, and EMG. Use in any particular workflow remains subject to the electromedical device manufacturer’s instructions.

How SignaGel supports electrode contact

Human skin is not perfectly flat. Dryness, surface texture, hair, or uneven electrode pressure can leave microscopic air gaps between an electrode and the body.

Because air conducts electricity poorly, these gaps may increase resistance or create inconsistent contact. Conductive gel fills small surface irregularities and creates a more continuous interface.

Contact problem How conductive gel may help
Small air gaps Gel fills irregular spaces between electrode and skin
Dry contact surface A moist conductive medium supports electrical transfer
Uneven electrode pressure Gel helps distribute the conductive interface
Noisy physiological signal Better contact may reduce contact-related artifacts.
Inconsistent readings A more uniform interface may improve repeatability
Concentrated or sharp sensation Complete contact may reduce localized current concentration in compatible stimulation setups

SignaGel should not be used to compensate for a damaged electrode, broken lead wire, incorrect placement, or incompatible equipment.

Bacteriostatic does not mean sterile

SignaGel is described as bacteriostatic, meaning its formulation is designed to inhibit bacterial growth in the product.

It does not mean that SignaGel:

  • Sterilizes the skin

  • Disinfects an electrode

  • Is appropriate for a sterile field

  • May be used on broken skin

  • May be used for invasive or percutaneous procedures

  • Eliminates the need for infection-control procedures

SignaGel is non-sterile and restricts use to intact, unbroken skin.

Conductive gel vs. adhesive gel vs. skin preparation

These categories are frequently confused.

Product category Example Primary role Remains during procedure?
Conductive electrode gel SignaGel Improve electrical contact Yes
Salt-free electrode gel Spectra 360 Conductive contact without salt or chloride Yes
Conductive adhesive gel Tensive Conductivity plus temporary electrode hold Yes
Conductive electrode paste Ten20 Fill and hold non-gelled neurodiagnostic electrodes Yes

Pre-gelled hydrogel electrode Balego TENS/NMES/FES Electrodes Electrode, gel, and adhesion combined The electrode remains attached

SignaGel is not abrasive and is not intended to replace skin preparation. It also does not provide the same electrode-holding function as Tensive or Ten20.

Can SignaGel be used with TENS or NMES?

Many modern TENS and NMES electrodes already contain self-adhering conductive hydrogel. Additional gel is generally unnecessary and may reduce adhesion, make the pad slide, or contaminate its existing gel layer.

SignaGel may be appropriate when:

  • The TENS or NMES system uses non-gelled reusable electrodes.

  • The equipment manufacturer calls for a conductive saline gel.

  • A compatible carbon-rubber electrode requires separate contact media.

  • The treating professional has specified SignaGel or an equivalent product.

For reusable non-adhesive options, compare our Uni-Patch Carbon Rubber Electrodes. Their product instructions require compatible conductive media or another approved attachment system.

For longer electrotherapy contact or reusable carbon electrodes, Spectra 360 Electrode Gel may be a more specifically positioned option.

Defibrillation use: an important distinction

Defibrillation is among SignaGel’s recommended applications. That does not mean gel should be added automatically to every defibrillation pad or paddle system.

Modern defibrillation equipment may use the following:

  • Pre-gelled disposable pads

  • Paddles requiring a specified conductive medium

  • Multifunction pacing and defibrillation electrodes

  • Proprietary pads that prohibit additional gel

Follow the exact defibrillator or paddle instructions. Do not add SignaGel beneath a pre-gelled adhesive pad unless the equipment manufacturer expressly directs it.

How to use SignaGel

The amount and placement of gel depend on the electrode and electromedical equipment. Always follow the equipment instructions.

1. Confirm compatibility

Verify that the procedure, electrode, and equipment call for a conductive electrode gel. Do not substitute SignaGel when the instructions specify a sterile gel, adhesive paste, ultrasound gel, or another dedicated product.

2. Inspect the skin

Use only on intact, unbroken skin.

Do not apply over:

  • Open wounds

  • Abrasions

  • Burns

  • Active rashes

  • Infected skin

  • Other compromised tissue

3. Check the product

Do not use the tube if:

  • The package is damaged.

  • The cap or seal is compromised.

  • Contamination is visible or suspected.

  • The gel has an abnormal appearance or consistency.

  • The product is beyond its labeled expiration date.

4. Avoid contaminating the tube

Do not allow the dispensing tip to contact the following:

  • The patient

  • Staff members

  • Used electrodes

  • Instruments

  • Treatment surfaces

  • Contaminated gloves

Dispense the gel without touching the application site.

5. Apply as directed

Use the quantity specified by the equipment or electrode instructions. Apply enough to establish contact without using so much that the electrode moves or gel spreads beyond the intended area.

6. Complete the procedure

Operate the ECG, EMG, biofeedback, defibrillation, or other compatible equipment according to its instructions.

7. Remove the gel

SignaGel is water-soluble and may be removed using a moistened soft cloth.

8. Recap and store

Close the cap after dispensing and protect the tube from direct sunlight.

Customer Reviews (4.8 / 5 · 5 reviews)

Abigail ★★★★★

This tube is perfect for my home ECG setup—the gel spreads smoothly and doesn’t dry out mid-session. I’m getting way better signal clarity now compared to the sticky pads I used before.

Edward O. ★★★★★

I’ve been using this gel for my home EMG sessions and the 2 oz tube is the perfect size to keep in my kit without taking up space. It glides on smoothly and holds its conductivity through a full 20-minute test without drying out. Even after several uses, the cap stays clean and the gel hasn’t separa

Harper ★★★★★

The tube cap seals tight enough that I can toss it in my kit without worrying about leaks, and the gel itself spreads thin without turning tacky. It holds contact for a solid 20-minute EMG session, which is exactly what I needed.
