Ten20® Conductive Paste for Neurodiagnostic Electrodes
Ten20® Conductive Paste by Weaver and Company is a washable, non-drying adhesive conductive paste for compatible non-gelled neurodiagnostic electrodes. It is intended for neuromonitoring procedures such as EEG examinations, evoked-potential testing, polysomnography (PSG), and multiple sleep latency testing (MSLT).
Unlike a conventional electrode gel, Ten20 combines conductive contact with paste-style electrode hold. That makes it particularly suited to cup-electrode workflows where the electrode must remain positioned during the recording.
We offer two jar sizes, both packaged as sets of three.
Choose Your Ten20 Jar Size
| Balego option | Weaver item number | Package | Practical fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 oz / 114 g jars | 10-20-4 | 3 jars | Lower or moderate procedure volume, mobile services, or facilities that prefer smaller open containers |
| 8 oz / 228 g jars | 10-20-8 | 3 jars | Higher-volume EEG and sleep-lab workflows where paste is used frequently |
Both sizes contain the same Ten20 formulation. Choose based on usage volume and inventory practices rather than clinical performance.

When Is Ten20 the Right Contact Medium?
The most useful buying question is not simply “Do I need something conductive?” Different electrode products perform different jobs.
| What the workflow requires | Product to consider |
|---|---|
| Paste-style hold plus conductivity for non-gelled EEG/EP/PSG/MSLT electrodes | Ten20® Conductive Paste |
| Skin preparation before electrode placement | NuPrep® Skin Prep Gel |
| An adhesive conductive gel rather than neurodiagnostic paste | Tensive® Conductive Adhesive Gel when permitted by the connected device/electrode |
| A conventional non-adhesive conductive electrode gel | SignaGel® Electrode Gel when appropriate for the procedure |
Ten20 should be selected specifically when a compatible non-gelled neurodiagnostic electrode needs both conductive contact and electrode hold. It is not a universal substitute for electrode gel or skin-preparation products. Labeling specifically limits its intended use to neuromonitoring with non-gelled neurodiagnostic electrodes.

How to Apply Ten20 Conductive Paste
Follow the current Ten20 IFU, the electrode manufacturer's instructions, the recording-system requirements, and your facility procedures.
1. Prepare the electrode site. Weaver's instructions describe gently preparing the intact skin with an abrasive preparation product such as NuPrep Skin Prep Gel.
2. Dispense only what is needed. Place the required amount of Ten20 onto a suitable clean working surface rather than repeatedly working directly from the bulk container.
3. Fill the cup electrode. For the bell-shaped cup electrode described in the manufacturer's instructions, fill the cup until it is slightly overfilled.
4. Place the electrode. Position it on the prepared site and apply moderate pressure.
5. Add fixation if needed. Tape or a small piece of gauze can provide additional security.
6. Verify the recording contact. Confirm electrode performance according to the connected recording system and facility protocol.
7. Remove after the examination. Ten20 is washable and can be removed with warm water.

Important Ten20 Safety Information
Use Ten20 only on intact skin. Do not apply it on or near open wounds or compromised skin. Avoid eye contact; if paste enters the eye, Weaver instructs rinsing with warm water for 10–15 minutes without rubbing.
Use additional caution when a patient has a history of sensitivity to cosmetics or lotions. Remove the product if rash, redness, itching, swelling, or another abnormal skin response develops. For long-term electrode placement, Weaver directs that the electrode site be uncovered and inspected for irritation or redness at least daily.
Do not use Ten20 with current-inducing electrodes. It should not be used as the conductive medium for TENS, NMES, EMS, or similar therapeutic electrical-stimulation electrodes.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Ten20 Conductive Paste used for?
Ten20 is intended for neuromonitoring with compatible non-gelled neurodiagnostic electrodes. Weaver lists EEG examinations, evoked-potential procedures, PSG, and MSLT as examples.
Is Ten20 the same as NuPrep?
No. NuPrep Skin Prep Gel prepares the electrode site. Ten20 stays with the electrode and supplies conductive contact plus adhesive hold.
For the complete distinction, read Ten20 vs. NuPrep. Our dedicated guide explains the two-step workflow in depth.
Is Ten20 an EEG gel?
“EEG conductive paste” is more precise. Ten20 has a thicker, adhesive consistency designed to help secure compatible non-gelled neurodiagnostic electrodes rather than functioning like a conventional liquid or gel electrode medium.
Can Ten20 be used for sleep studies?
Yes, it includes both polysomnography (PSG) and multiple sleep latency testing (MSLT) among the product's labeled examples.
Can Ten20 be used with TENS or NMES electrodes?
No. The Ten20 instructions specifically state that the product should not be used with current-inducing electrodes.
How do I remove Ten20 from skin or hair?
Ten20 is washable and removable with warm water. For longer instructions covering hair, clothing, and equipment, see our Ten20 storage and cleanup guide.
